Here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to clean and lube your motorcycle chain. I know there are a few different ways, and my moto jargon is probably not perfect, but this is pretty basic and something everyone should know how to do. It the easiest way to get the longest life out of your chain and sprocket. You should lube it every 300-500 miles, and do a full clean and lube such as I am doing here every 3000 miles, but my chain is starting to get old and kinked, so I do it anytime it seems dirty or dry. How to diagnose carburetor vacuum leaks on your motorcycle

How to diagnose carburetor vacuum leaks on your motorcycle Video Clips. Duration : 4.68 Mins.
This is a simple video demonstrating the best method to detect vacuum leaks around your carb boots. Vacuum leaks are a fairly common problem in older bikes, and luckily they can usually be remedied quickly and easily, the first step however is diagnosis. If your bike is running rough, won't rev up or has an irregular idle, before you take off the carbs and open them up, check for vacuum leaks. A vacuum leak occurs when too much air is introduced into the combustion chamber via a failure in one or more of the carburetor boots or other rubber mating surface. When too much air is sucked in, then the bike cannot combust the gasoline efficiently; there must be an optimal ratio. Therefore it is up to you to detect these leaks, and either plug them up or replace the carb boots. In this particular bike, the engine was running VERY lean. Not only did we have vacuum leaks, but the baffles were taken out of the engine, and the previous owner had removed the air filter and neglected to install a new one. This is not only dangerous by allowing foreign material to enter the engine, but it also makes the engine run much hotter, as lean explosions create more heat than regular ones (think about blowing on a fire in your fire place: more air, hotter fire). This can be detrimental to a variety of parts in the engine, and it is a good thing we didn't ride this bike around too much before finding the problem. If anyone has any questions as to why this is important or how to find/repair these ...

Motorcycle Repair: Inspecting & Adjusting the Final Drive Belt on a 2008 Harley Davidson Road Glide

Motorcycle Repair: Inspecting & Adjusting the Final Drive Belt on a 2008 Harley Davidson Road Glide Tube. Duration : 5.20 Mins.
**Always follow the instructions in your repair manual when doing repair or maintenance work on a motorcycle. Manuals can be found at the dealer and online.** This video is about inspecting and adjusting the final drive belt on a Harley Davidson Road Glide. I used a tool called a Belt Tension Gauge, and it is important to transfer the force required to compress the gauge to the drive belt. It might appear that I am not doing that in the video, but I am. I had to hold the tool the way I did to prevent it from falling over. Harley Davidson sells the Belt Tension Gauge or you can find an aftermarket version of the same thing online. I think 10 lbs is pretty standard for checking the deflection on belt final drives, but check your owners manual. The Belt Tension Gauge originally had support arms on the part that made contact with the belt, and it looked similar to a football goal post. I had to cut them off because the tool would not fit between the plastic shield that covers the final drive belt. Its ok if you cut them off, just make sure you center the gauge on the belt before applying pressure. Belts are my favorite type of final drive on a motorcycle because it lasts longer than a chain, is quieter than a chain, requires less maintenance than a chain and is more efficient than a drive shaft. Tools Used: - Belt Tension Gauge - I used a 36mm socket for a the rear axle nut. It worked, but I think it was a bit lose. I tried 1 1/4" and 1 1/2", but neither socket worked, and I ...

DIY: Mounting a motorcycle tire tutorial Tube. Duration : 10.05 Mins.
This video is a walk-through/tutorial on how to mount a new motorcycle tire. I bought a new tire way back in a video Shopping with Skeefoo, and I'm just now getting around to installing it. This was the first time I'd ever mounted my own tire. I think it's one of those things a lot of riders are afraid to do, and prefer to spend the money having a professional do it. I used a couple of cheap tire levers (amzn.to and had my new rubber mounted, tube back in, and wheel on the bike in only about 30 minutes. This certainly isn't rocket science. You just need a couple of levers and a bit of determination and you will be changing your own tires in no time at all. Save your money, ride more. One of the more difficult parts of the install was getting the valve stem of the tube back through the rim. I had to monkey with it for quite a while. Someone suggested I pick up on of these handy Valve Stem Pullers (amzn.to Looks like a great idea. I didn't worry about balancing the tire, this ain't no race bike if you know what I mean. I've since had it over 60 mph a few times and haven't noticed any vibrations from the tire. Having the proper tools, and knowing how to change/repair a tire on the side of the road is a skill every adventure rider should know. I road from Utah to Panama on my BMW and had no clue what to do if I got a flat tire. I didn't even have the tools to take the wheel off. Thankfully luck was on my side during that ride, and I didn't have any problems.
